Mouth gaps are not really liked by anyone. The treatments for filling up spaces between your teeth are either expensive, discomforting or can result in an ugly look. So why is it that so many people do not do much to prevent them? Teeth loss is a very common situation through which a vast majority of individuals have to go through. What few people realize is the fact that if early symptoms are not ignored, the scenario is reversible and would not result in teeth loss. Moreover, if certain prevention techniques are practiced on a regular basis, then even the conditions that can lead to teeth loss will not occur.

Here are some prevention methods that if implemented would not result in gaps in your mouth.

Visit Your Dentist On A Regular Basis

The best way to prevent tooth loss is to regularly get your teeth and gums examined by a dentist. How frequent the visits should be depends on an individual’s particular scenario. Generally, you should visit your dentist one or two times a year. However, if you are suffering from a gum disease, then you will need to visit more often. Considering your condition, your dentist will be able to advise you how soon the visits should be scheduled.

While your dentist will examine your teeth and gums at every visit, he should do a complete evaluation at least once a year. This includes determining the distance between your teeth and gums with a probe, taking X-rays of your bones and other necessary examinations.

Brush Your Teeth Daily

Proper dental care can significantly reduce the risk of teeth loss. Brush your teeth on a daily basis and make sure you are doing it after every meal or at least twice a day. You should also floss your teeth at least once every day.

Make sure you follow proper hygiene. After every brushing, let your toothbrush dry properly. Wash your toothbrush thoroughly every few days or so.

Eat A Nutritious Diet

Consume a well-balanced diet that does not comprise too many sugary substances because they can cause tooth decay and loss. Eat foods that have sufficient quantities of vitamin C and calcium so that you can provide your teeth with the right amount of nutrition. Drink plenty of water throughout the day and avoid eating anything late at night.

Avoid Grinding Or Clenching Your Teeth

Grinding and clenching your teeth can damage your teeth gradually and inflame gums, which may lead to serious gum diseases. Getting rid of these habits is difficult, but you will have to do so if you want to ensure good oral health. Try to control your stress levels by performing exercises or activities that relax your mind. Your dentist might be able to provide you with a bite guard so that the effect on your teeth is minimized.

Stay Away From Smoking

Smoking is another habit that causes unhealthy teeth and gums, which may lead to teeth loss. It has an effect on the blood supply and so your teeth do not get enough nutrients that are required for their health. As a result, the risks of gum diseases and teeth loss increase. So try to stop smoking because it will not only prevent teeth loss but will reduce the chances of lung and cardiac diseases as well.

Be Careful

If you play contact sports like football or boxing, you may suffer from a blow to your face, which is also a main cause of teeth loss. If you wear a mouth guard when playing, you may be able to prevent this.
